Trip to Door County

As S and I celebrated our wedding anniversary last week, we took a trip to the Door County for fun over the long weekend. We decided on Door County so Kalki can also go with us. One of the best decisions we made since he had so much fun!

Before the trip we loaded on good home-made food & a wonderful anniversary dinner at a friend's house. I made a red-lentils & Cauliflower soup topped with chickpea sundal.

One of the nice meals we had during the trip was a Roasted Vegetables quesadilla & a Black-bean burger at The Cookery in Fish Creek, WI

I have not seen my baby be this happy ever, though he is always a happy baby. He spent an hour in the water for two days and another 20 minutes the third day. Though he gets to swim quite often, he has never seen waves before! He tried to catch the waves and refused to leave.

And he also got to eat an ice-cream everyday! When we got back home on Monday night, I made a simple buttermilk gravy with zucchini &  sautéed red cabbage for the side dish. I also got a lovely, new bowl from the trip. Supporting other artists :)

My Baby is 3

Kalki turned three today! Its so hard to believe that he is already 3 and he has been enriching our lives for the last 2 and 1/2 years. We celebrated yesterday with a big non-fat frozen vanilla yogurt. He also got  hardy balls that he can't really chew on to play with now. And a new rope toy. He is a very happy baby and he makes us happy :)

Happy Baby

Nothing makes my baby more happy than going for a long swim in a lake & playing with sticks :)

Kalki keeping busy...

Yesterday was a wonderful spring day with the temperature in high sixties in Madison. As Shankar and I sat outside on the deck, sipping our coffees, this is what Kalki kept himself busy with - a long stick he found in the backyard! By the time we were done with the coffee, the stick was nothing more than shreds of wood.

Kalki & Snowballs

We spent last weekend @ Hayward, WI with some friends. We were glad that the doggies could go with us and they had a great time running in the woods, playing with sticks and running on the lake. Kalki was particularly very enthusiastic about snowballs. The snow on the lake was pretty powdery and the snowball was falling apart even before I could throw it. However, that was not to deter our Kalki! As you can see, Amy - the smart one, decided thats not fun for her after a couple of attempts :)

@ the Dog Park

Yesterday was a really nice warm day here in Wisconsin and we took the doggies to the dog park in Verona as soon as Shankar got home. They had already played quite a bit during the day, and were super tired by the time we got back from the park. In fact Kalki was exhausted to a point where he slept in the car when we stopped at a store - he is usually anxious in the car and can't wait for us to get back. They both had a great time at the park, with the only wish that other dogs that grab their ball come back to play with it and not run away.

Something to Chase

One of our friends in Kansas had a dog that would get pretty excited and chase the tiny red light from a laser pointer. We tried that with Amy, but she didn't care about it. But now Kalki is super excited about spots of light that can move. I discovered this when I was working from my couch and he started jumping around, after the reflection from my laptop screen on the ceiling. Now anytime I sit down to work, he gets excited about the reflection from the laptop or the phone. Its actually quite funny to see him riled up about the reflection!

Kalki @ Indian Lake

I think every pet parent has a moment when they realize how naughty their kids are. My moment with Kalki was when I took him hiking with a couple of friends to Indian Lake last fall, soon after we had brought him home. He managed to chew the retractable leash between the house and the park and I had to knot the two pieces together into a workable leash. When I was looking at a map, in a gap of a few seconds he managed to chew it again, without any cord left for a knot. I was able to barely attach the handle on his harness and he was happy to be running around by himself. I think grabbing the handle in his mouth made him feel proud, like he is doing my work for me! Doesn't he look like he has accomplished something?

Don't do this mom!

Kalki, our 8 month old puppy is actually such a baby - he hasn't yet developed hard paddings on his feet, and has tender 'baby skin'. During our vacation, we were playing in a parking lot and the skin n all his feet got torn off, and he had to be taken to the emergency vet. And no, he didnt stop playing when he got hurt. And he seems to get hurt randomly so many times when he is simply playing outside. Anyways, I didn't want to see his feet bleed again, especially when it is so hard to keep him confined. I got him some nice doggy boots and his face tells how much he doesn't like them!
