Fur, fur, Baby!

The sparrows have learnt to expect a hoard of soft fur when the dogs get shed in the backyard. They wait for me to finish shedding and as soon as the dogs run away, they swoop down to fetch their treasure. Eyes on the prize, they completely ignore me & the camera...

Kalki says...

every time we take him out for a swim!

My Baby is 3

Kalki turned three today! Its so hard to believe that he is already 3 and he has been enriching our lives for the last 2 and 1/2 years. We celebrated yesterday with a big non-fat frozen vanilla yogurt. He also got  hardy balls that he can't really chew on to play with now. And a new rope toy. He is a very happy baby and he makes us happy :)

Happy Baby

Nothing makes my baby more happy than going for a long swim in a lake & playing with sticks :)

Missing Our Baby Girl

Its been almost 5 months since we lost our big baby girl to Lyme's disease. We still miss her day in and day out. Kalki especially misses his play mate and doesn't really want to play with other doggie friends. One consolation is that she was a brave lil girl to the very end and we had the opportunity to have a great time with her before we had to let her pass over the rainbow.

Super Special September

The theme of this month's Daring Baker's Challenge is Decorated Sugar Cookies with themes that are special  to us about September. The September 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mandy of “What the Fruitcake?!” Mandy challenged everyone to make Decorated Sugar Cookies based on recipes from Peggy Porschen and The Joy of Baking. Shankar and I have a very long list of events to look forward to this month, including our 7 years of happiness being together! Hence, my cookies reflected that and also his love for the Green Bay Packers :)

I am not a big fan of icing and this is my first attempt at decorating cookies ~ using royal icing I made in a ziploc bag. The recipe for the cookies can be found here.

Our next biggest day in September is today, when we celebrate the Adoption Day of Amy and Nikko. I can't  believe its been 4 (long) years since these two babies walked into our lives - they are testimony to love at first sight and not a day has gone by where they haven't filled our house and hearts with loads of love.

And here is a very special video of Nikko...

Amy in her new Pool

How else could she cool off in this crazy heat, after playing in the dog park?

Amy back to Swimming!

When Shankar had Kalki in St. Louis a few weeks back and I had Amy, I took her to the Governor Nelson State Park on the north side of town for swimming. This park has a special pet swim area and we went around 4 in the afternoon. She had to jump off a dock which she has not done before and was a little anxious on how she was going to get in the water. Once she figured it out, we had to teach her to use the stairs to get back on the dock. She had such a great time, especially playing with another dog Daisy, who looked very similar to Kalki, except for her black nose.

Cozy Corner

Here is one of my favorite picture of Nikko taken in Owen, a couple of years back. He was hiding in Shankar's sweatshirt pocket and was curious what I was up to.

Kalki keeping busy...

Yesterday was a wonderful spring day with the temperature in high sixties in Madison. As Shankar and I sat outside on the deck, sipping our coffees, this is what Kalki kept himself busy with - a long stick he found in the backyard! By the time we were done with the coffee, the stick was nothing more than shreds of wood.

Kalki & Snowballs

We spent last weekend @ Hayward, WI with some friends. We were glad that the doggies could go with us and they had a great time running in the woods, playing with sticks and running on the lake. Kalki was particularly very enthusiastic about snowballs. The snow on the lake was pretty powdery and the snowball was falling apart even before I could throw it. However, that was not to deter our Kalki! As you can see, Amy - the smart one, decided thats not fun for her after a couple of attempts :)

Pepper & Crocheting

After a long break, I went back to work on my Afghan a little bit yesterday afternoon. This is a project in the making for a while, since I learned how to Crochet. One of my friend's mom taught me the skill during 2002 Christmas break. I have however failed to produce much albeit starting on a few projects, including this Afghan. Anyways, yesterday Pepper decided that I was having way too much fun with all the yarn and the pretty Afghan (yes, it is a rippled 3-color Afghan being made with really good yarn and is pretty). Hence she climbed down from her cage, on to the sofa, took a closer look at what I had and jumped right in. She was not very happy when I chased her back on the cage. She would go back, tear up some paper and in a couple of minutes be right back to play with the yarn. And I would have totally let her have some fun, if not for her sharp beak that cuts the yarn. I am sure she had shredding on her mind too!

The low quality pics are from my iphone :(

Black Beauty in Hi-Res

Of course, I can never stop with posting a picture of just one baby! Here is Amy looking out the window, wondering if it is too soon to ask mommy to let her out again.

Loving my Baby!

Its been 3.5 months since we brought this big baby home and loving every minute of it! (ok, except when he chewed my laptop cord).... isn't he so handsome?

@ the Dog Park

Yesterday was a really nice warm day here in Wisconsin and we took the doggies to the dog park in Verona as soon as Shankar got home. They had already played quite a bit during the day, and were super tired by the time we got back from the park. In fact Kalki was exhausted to a point where he slept in the car when we stopped at a store - he is usually anxious in the car and can't wait for us to get back. They both had a great time at the park, with the only wish that other dogs that grab their ball come back to play with it and not run away.

Dwarfed Amy!

On Shankar's birthday a couple of years back, one of our friends brought his Great Dane over to our house in Owen. This was the second time Amy has been around a really big dog, the first time being with my house mate's Bouvier in California. Anyways, this Great Dane, Kitty, was also very terrified of being out of her comfort zone and in our house, in the presence of Amy! Look at how she has her tail tucked under her. Amy on the other hand was very excited about having company, but was kind of disappointed that Kitty didn't want to play. but they did have a great time with all the treats :)

Nikko hiding in the towel

We haven't had one of these days - Nikko being very playful in a while, but when he was, it was a lot of fun :) These days, he thinks being with Pepper & Shankar are about all the fun in the world (and may be trying to bite mommy!)
